Hibs striker Christian Doidge signs for Forest Green Rovers

Hibs have tonight revealed that striker Christian Doidge has signed for Forest Green Rovers.

The 31-year-old hitman has re-joined the club Hibs signed him from in a £300,000 deal back in 2019 under Paul Heckingbottom.

Doidge joins the English League Two strugglers for an undisclosed fee.

The Welsh striker has found himself a bit-part player lately and recently commented that he may need to leave Easter Road for first team football.

He only returned in the summer from a 12 month loan stint with Kilmarnock, to find himself falling down the pecking order.

Hibs recently signed Myziane Maolida and Emiliano Marcondes in the attacking areas, an area that already boasted Martin Boyle, Adam Le Fondre, Harry McKirdy, Elie Youan, Jair Tavares and Dylan Vente, pushing him even further away from the first team.

Doidge moves on having played 148 games and scoring 41 goals for the club.

Hibs boss Nick Montgomery commented:

“I would like to thank Chris for his efforts this season and his time at the Club. It has been a difficult season for him with a few injuries and lack of game time, but he has always been a model professional.

“The opportunity for Chris to take a long-term contract back at a club he knows incredibly well was one we all agreed would be in the best interests for both parties.

“With Adam Le Fondre and Martin Boyle coming back into the squad, alongside the arrivals of Emiliano Marcondes and Myziane Maolida, we have options and good squad depth up-front going into the second half of the season.”

HIBS-MAD VIEW

It's a sad day for the football club with big Doidgy leaving!!

He started his Hibs career slowly but turned it around and quickly became a fans favourite.

However, after his horror achilles injury and long-covid nightmare, he found himself out in the cold, with only bit-part appearances.

It's a move that seems to have been coming for a while.

Big Doidgy always gave 100% and had a decent scoing record.

Hibs-Mad wishes him well back with Forest Green!
