Hibs winger Martin Boyle signs new deal

Last updated : 18 August 2021 By Steve Forbes

Hibs have today revealed that winger Martin Boyle has signed a new, improved contract at Easter Road.

The 28-year-old was the subject of a laughable £500,000 bid from Aberdeen just yesterday, but the Hibees have responded by tying down the former Dundee player until 2024.

The player himself also revealed that unlike his last deal, there is NO £500,000 release clause (for clubs outwith Scotland) in his new contract.

Speaking to the official club website, he said:

“It’s a great feeling to agree a new deal at a football club that means a lot to me and my family.

“I think everyone can see how much I’m enjoying it here and how my own game is benefitting from that.

“As a team we’re always looking to improve and that’s key for me. Everyone can see the desire from the club, the players, and the management staff to progress and challenge for trophies and European football; that excites me and that’s where I want to be.

“If we keep working hard, then hopefully we will be able to create more highs than the ones we’ve already had.”

Hibs boss Jack Ross added:

“Last season, his numbers for goals and assists were outstanding, and he’s started exactly the same this season as well. You can tell he’s feeling good and he’s right at it.

“For me, he’s as good as anyone in this country in his position, and long may it continue because he’s a major asset for us.

“He’s also a really good character, brings energy to the club every day, and works really hard for the team. He’s a player of real quality and a really good person for us to have at this football club.

“I’ve had long conversations with our new CEO Ben Kensell about building something here and he has been hugely supportive in aiming to keep our best players at the club.”

Boyle has now played 227 times for the Hibees, scoring 51 goals.

An outstanding piece of news coming out of Easter Road.

Let's be honest, the Aberdeen offer was joke, but it seems to hve spurned the club on in getting the deal over the line.

Apparently Boyler has now been involved in over 100 goals, scoring 51 and creating a lot of assists.

Martin and his family (his wife Rachael plays for the Hibs Ladies) love it in Edinburgh, and it looks like they are in for the long haul

Ron Gordon is building something really exciting at Easter Road, and this news just proves once again that the owner is serious.

His plans may have been delayed due to covid, but it looks like they are back on track.

It's an exciting time to be a Hibee, and it's only right that Boyler is part of it.
